Jackware Pint

Leather Blackjack mugs were in common use in England and her colonies during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Blackjacks varied in size from one pint or less to several gallons. Often their shape included a spout for pouring. Our mugs are handcrafted in Virginia from oak-tanned steer hide in the finest English tradition, and stitched by hand with hand-twisted linen thread. They hold about one pint, and are lined with modern brewer's pitch. Brewer's pitch is nearly identical in appearance to traditional pine pitch lining, but is much safer for food use.
