Pewter Flagon

This pewter flagon, handcrafted by Shirley Pewter in Williamsburg, Virginia, is a reproduction of a drinking vessel found in a ca. 1617-1625 well just outside the western palisade wall of James Fort.

The original was one of many artifacts found in the well and was in remarkable condition. The thumbpiece is monogrammed "REP" which may point to ownership by Richard and Elizabeth Pierce, settlers who came to Virginia from England in 1618 and settled at Jamestown.
