Cool Well Hanover County, Virginia ca. 1830s 1/3 +/- Acre $185,000 ON THE VIRGINIA LANDMARKS REGISTER AND NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES
Cool Well, built in the 1830s, is located in Hanover County. Cool Well was donated to the Revolving Fund by a joint venture between Mr. Todd Rogers of Rogers-Chenault, Inc. and Mr. Bryan Kornblau of Eagle Construction, Inc. Cool Well was saved from demolition to make way for a subdivision. An historic architectural evaluation of Cool Well paid for by Rogers-Chenault, Inc. concludes that Cool Well "is a significant addition to the built history of Hanover County and should be preserved." Preliminary research indicates that Cool Well most likely served as a tavern. Cool Well, supposedly named for the well located at the rear of the house, is a one-and-a-half story, three bay, frame house. In the 1950s and 1970s additions were added to the rear of the house. However, many of the building's original and early features survive including the original exterior beaded weatherboard now hidden under aluminum siding. The house is on the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places. Historic tax credits are available for appropriate restoration work. Conditions of Sale and Restrictions: Purchaser pays all closing costs.
