More Information
Burlington, also called Burlington Plantation, is located on the Mattaponi River. Home of the Gwathmey family since Owen Gwathmey II acquired the land the 1750s. The main house is comprised of two parts. A stuccoed Classical Revival section built by Dr. William Gwathmey in 1842 is in the front. A frame section in the rear is part of a colonial dwelling erected by the Burwell family.

Outbuildings include an early barn and smoke house. The family graveyard is near the house.
