Mission Statement

The Journal of the Jamestown Rediscovery Center provides a free and accessible conduit for research, analysis, and scholarship of events surrounding 16th- and 17th-century attempts at settling North America by Europeans, with an emphasis on life at Jamestown Island during this time. It is intended for a professional audience. Web-based and published electronically, the journal is located at the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities' home page: http://www.apva.org. Dedicated to the dissemination of insight from archaeological investigations of Jamestown Island, the JJRC provides both in-depth rigorous analyses and broad interpretive comparisons of past and current research and research issues of the region. Overall, the Journal seeks analytical and interpretive expertise from informed points of view that contribute to a better understanding of Jamestown.

Published annually beginning in 2001, The Journal of the Jamestown Rediscovery Center, considers for publication articles that engage topics relating to the archaeology of Jamestown Island and its local, regional, or global significance in the 16th and 17th centuries. Members of the Editorial Advisory Board and the editor serve as the journal's jury, reviewing written submissions.

The Journal of the Jamestown Rediscovery Center fluctuates in content and format, with some volumes being an assortment of analytical reports and others including interpretive discussions centered about a common theme. The journal's flexibility is designed to encourage submissions from a wide variety of disciplines and research interests that can broaden and deepen insights into Jamestown.
