Online ticket sales will stop at noon on Friday, April 23rd. However, tickets can be purchased at the event on Saturday, April 24th.

RESTORE VIRGINIA! is open to all and will be of particular interest to owners of historic property or older homes. Participants can expect to gain a greater understanding of how to care for the special needs of historic buildings.


Specialists will speak on the following topics:

10:30 a.m. - 11:15 a.m Using Rehabilitation Tax Credits: Alexander C. "Sandy" Graham, owner of the McIlwaine House, Marc Hirth, Carlyle and Associates and Bryan Green, PhD, Director of Historic Preservation for Commonwealth Architects

11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Repair and Maintenance of Historic Windows: Matthew Hankins, Restoration Millshop Supervisor, Worcester Eisenbrandt, Inc.

12:30 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. Preventing Water Problems in Historic Buildings: Camille Bowman, Easement Technical Advisor, Department of Historic Resources

1:30 p.m. - 2:15 p.m. Lime Mortars: Jeffrey Price, Director of Sales & Marketing, Virginia Lime Works

2:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. The Phoenix Project: Marion Forsyth Werkheiser, Executive Director, Phoenix Project

3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Open house tour of Battersea, light refreshments, shuttle bus available in front of the McIlwaine House leaving at 3:15 p.m. Return shuttle to McIlwaine House from Battersea starts at 4:15 p.m. The mission of Battersea Foundation is to preserve historic Battersea and offer educational, artistic and cultural experiences that inform, enrich and inspire the public.

AND...Ask the Experts! Free, 10 minute problem solving consultations with old house experts for building owners.

Vendors specializing in historic restoration trades, preservation craftsmen, contractors, preservation community groups, traditional crafters, conservators, architectural salvage and antiques!

Vendors will be at the Union Train Station. Speakers will give their presentations as the Petersburg Arts League. The McIlwaine House will be open for free tours. Participants can check in or purchase tickets at three locations: the Union Train Station, the McIlwaine House and the Petersburg Art League. See map below for details:
