Preservation Virginia invites you to attend its annual RESTORE VIRGINIA! event to be held at the historic McIlwaine House and the Union Train Station on Saturday, April 24th, 2010 in historic Old Towne Petersburg.

RESTORE VIRGINIA! is open to all and will be of particular interest to owners of historic property or older homes. Participants can expect to gain a greater understanding of how to care for the special needs of historic buildings. Specialists will speak on the following topics:

  • historic window repair and maintenance
  • historic masonry repair and lime mortars
  • preventing water infi ltration
  • obtaining, using and syndicating historic rehabilitation tax credits
AND...Ask the Experts! Free, 10 minute problem solving consultations with old house experts for building owners.

Where: Vendors and presentations will be at the Union Train Station located at 103 River Street, Petersburg, VA 23803. The McIlwaine House located on Cockade Alley, Petersburg, VA 23803 and across from the Union Train Station will be open for free tours.

Vendors specializing in historic restoration trades, preservation craftsmen, contractors, preservation community groups, local traditional crafters, conservators, dealers in architectural salvage and antiques will be in the Union Train Station.

The event is coordinated by and benefi ts Preservation Virginia, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 1889. The mission of Preservation Virginia is to preserve, promote and serve as an advocate for the state’s irreplaceable historic places for cultural, economic and educational benefits of everyone.

Plenty of free parking is available next to the McIlwaine House. Neighboring Historic Battersea, c. 1760, will also be open for free to RESTORE VIRGINIA! participants.
