APVA Preservation Virginia Announces the 2009 Historic Preservation Awards Call for Entries

Tuesday, November 11 2008

APVA Preservation Virginia announces it is now accepting entries for the 2009 Virginia Historic Preservation Awards. The Awards Committee invites members of communities throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia to nominate potential recipients. The APVA will recognize the award winners at a legislative reception on Monday, February 2nd at Old City Hall in Richmond. The announcement and reception precede Virginia's Preservation Day, Tuesday, February 3. The organization has given awards since 1971, honoring Virginians who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to preservation.

APVA Preservation Virginia will present the awards to homeowners, commercial property owners/developers, architectural firms, local governments, civic organizations, preservation-project team members, or individuals for efforts that have preserved and protected the architectural, archaeological and cultural heritage of Virginia. Projects associated with nominations must have been completed in 2008 and focused on the rehabilitation of structures at least fifty years old (unless infill in the Outstanding Domestic or Commercial Project categories) and located within the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Award categories include Outstanding Domestic Project, Outstanding Commercial Project, Outstanding Adaptive Use, Outstanding Public Sector Preservation Project, Outstanding Service in Community Preservation, Outstanding Historic Preservation Research, and the Young Preservationist(s) of the Year Award.

The deadline for nominations is December 5, 2008. To make a nomination, or learn more about the criteria for the preservation award program visit http://www.apva.org/awards/.
