Scotchtown to Host Series of Fall EventsFriday, August 29 2008 WHAT:
Second Saturdays hands on Colonial Days at Scotchtown, home to Patrick Henry from 1771 to 1778.
Take a step back in time and experience life as Patrick Henry would have during his time at Scotchtown. Enjoy a tour of his home and grounds in this lovely country fall setting and experience colonial food, games and much more.
September 13th: Textiles: Fibers to Frocks
Come celebrate our first Second Saturday! Costumed interpreters will show you how to turn raw materials like flax, silk, cotton and wool into cloth used to make clothing. Try your hand at colonial spinning and weaving.
October 11th: Hearth Cooking and Candle Making
Enjoy the smells and tastes of seasonal food cooked on the open hearth of Scotchtown's colonial kitchen. Experience first hand how the Chiswells and Henrys lit up the long winter nights by making candles the colonial way.
November 8th: Fall Festival and Restore Virginia Workshop
The harvest season was an important and busy time for the colonial residents of Scotchtown. Enjoy open hearth cooking, weaving, gourd painting and many more colonial games and crafts as Scotchtown prepares for the long winter ahead! Restore Virginia will have artisans and craftsman demonstrating preservation techniques for historic structures like Scotchtown. Bring the whole family; there will be something for everyone.
Cost: $10 Adult, $8 Seniors, $7 child. APVA and AAA discounts apply. Price of General Admission is included.
