APVA Preservation Virginia Announces the 2008 Historic Preservation Awards Call for EntriesTuesday, November 20 2007 APVA Preservation Virginia announces it is now accepting entries for the 2008 Virginia Historic Preservation Awards. Its Awards Committee invites members of communities throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia to nominate potential recipients. The APVA will recognize the award winners on Monday, 21 January. The organization has given awards since 1971, honoring Virginians who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to preservation.
APVA Preservation Virginia will present the awards to homeowners, commercial property owners/developers, architectural firms, local governments, civic organizations, preservation-project team members, or individuals for efforts that have preserved and protected the architectural and archaeological heritage of Virginia. Projects associated with nominations must have been completed in 2007 and focused on the rehabilitation of structures at least fifty years old (unless infill in the Outstanding Domestic or Commercial Project categories). Projects must be located within the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Award categories include Outstanding Domestic Project, Outstanding Commercial Project, Outstanding Adaptive Use, Outstanding Public Sector Preservation Project, Outstanding Service in Community Preservation, Outstanding Historic Preservation Research, and the Young Preservationist(s) of the Year Award.
