Jamestown Rediscovery

Coins

Dates and origins reveal much about the settlers. While some of the coins are English and date from 1560 to 1636, others are Irish and Dutch. Men who aided in the English colonization of Ireland may have brought the Irish coins. The Dutch coins were minted during the Eighty Years War against Spain in which many of the men in Jamestown fought with the Dutch and gained military experience.
