Brass Chain Necklace

Jamestown Rediscovery

necklace

This brass chain from Ditch 1 probably had a utilitarian rather than decorative purpose. It could have held a brass seal for impressing hot wax or perhaps a group of keys. Chains were popular fashion accessories in the late 16th and early 17th centuries but a gentleman's jewelry would be made of precious materials.
