A 15th-century breastplate was unearthed from the fill of the bulwark trench. While breastplates are not uncommon on early 17th-century colonial sites, it is unusual to find one so old. The cutaways around the arm and neck area would normally have had a rolled edge. This one seems to have been trimmed, most likely to increase the comfort of the soldier who wore it. It seems to have been in good serviceable shape when discarded. |
